Itinerary
Arrival in Ahmedabad and Orientation
Arrive at Ahmedabad (SVPI Airport / Railway Station). Meet-and-greet followed by transfer to the hotel. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a short orientation walk or visit Sabarmati Ashram and the historic pols. Evening at leisure and briefing for the birding itinerary. Tip: If arriving early, explore the vibrant local markets for handicrafts.
Drive to Nalsarovar — Sunset Boat Safari
After breakfast, drive to Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary (approx. 1–1.5 hrs). Check-in at the lodge near the wetland. In the afternoon undertake a guided boat safari across the lake to spot waterfowl, migratory ducks, and waders. Focus on photography and identification with your naturalist guide. Boat timings depend on water levels — seasonal flexibility required.
Full Day Birding at Nalsarovar & Surrounding Wetlands
Full day dedicated to exploring Nalsarovar and nearby marshes. Early morning walk/boat session for best bird activity: look for pelicans, flamingos (seasonal), ducks, painted storks, and a variety of waders. Midday break at the lodge, followed by evening birding and village interactions to learn about local wetland conservation. Best birding is during early mornings and late afternoons.
Transfer to Little Rann of Kutch — Wild Ass Jeep Safari
Check out after breakfast and drive to the Little Rann of Kutch (approx. 3–4 hrs). Afternoon/late afternoon jeep safari in search of the Indian Wild Ass and open salt-marsh specialists like greater flamingo, cranes and marsh larks. Enjoy an expansive landscape unique to Gujarat. Carry sun protection and a wide-angle lens for landscapes.
Drive to Velavadar — Evening Grassland Safari
After an early morning activity (photo stop or short birding), depart for Velavadar Blackbuck National Park (approx. 4–5 hrs). Check-in and relax. Late afternoon safari in the grasslands to spot blackbuck, wolves (rare), and a host of grassland birds including harriers and larks. Evening at the lodge with a recap of sightings and photography tips.
Morning Safari at Velavadar and Departure to Ahmedabad
Early morning jeep safari for the best wildlife activity—watch blackbuck herds, steppe birds and raptors. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out. Drive back to Ahmedabad for onward connections. Plan flights/train departures post-evening for relaxed travel; airport transfer can be arranged on request.
