Tip: Keep your passport/ID handy for hotel check-in and permits. Stay hydrated after travel.
Gangtok City & Monastery Highlights
Full-day sightseeing around Gangtok visiting cultural and spiritual sites: Rumtek Monastery (one of Sikkim's most important monasteries), Enchey Monastery, and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. Stop at the Directorate of Handicrafts to see local crafts. Evening free to explore cafes and local markets.
Important: Rumtek may have restricted photography areas; please respect monastery rules.
Tsomgo (Changu) Lake & Baba Harbhajan Mandir Excursion
Early morning drive to Tsomgo (Changu) Lake — a high-altitude glacial lake known for its turquoise waters and yak rides (seasonal). Visit the revered Baba Harbhajan Mandir nearby. Return to Gangtok by evening and relax. This day offers iconic Sikkim photography opportunities.
Note: Altitude at Tsomgo is ~12,400 ft; visitors may feel mild breathlessness. Carry sunscreen and warm clothing.
Gangtok to Lachen — Scenic Drive via Chungthang
Depart early for Lachen, passing through Chungthang and scenic viewpoints like the Seven Sisters Waterfall and Singhik viewpoint. Arrive in Lachen by late afternoon, check into your guesthouse or hotel and brief orientation about the next day's early excursion to Gurudongmar Lake.
Tip: Roads can be narrow and winding — choose a reliable vehicle and driver experienced with mountain routes.
Gurudongmar Lake Excursion & Transfer to Lachung
Very early morning drive to Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes accessible by road in India. Spend time at the lake (respect local regulations) and return to Lachen for breakfast. Post-brunch, travel to Lachung, enjoy the scenic valley and visit Lachung Monastery. Evening at leisure to explore the village.
Important: Gurudongmar is at extreme altitude — limited facilities, sudden weather changes possible. Prior acclimatization and medical precautions are recommended.
Yumthang Valley (Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary) & Zero Point
Visit Yumthang Valley, famed for its fragrant meadows and rhododendron blooms (seasonal). Continue to Zero Point / Yumesamdong (subject to road and permit conditions) for expansive snowfields and panoramic views. Return to Gangtok in the evening for a final overnight stay and relaxation.
Tip: Flower season (Mar–May) is spectacular for photography; winter visits may have snow and limited accessibility beyond Yumthang. Check the best time to visit North-East before planning your trip.
Departure — Shopping & Transfer Out
After breakfast, spend any remaining time shopping for souvenirs at MG Marg or visiting a local tea shop. Check out from the hotel and transfer to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station for your onward journey.

Every Hotel in North-East Was a Surprise
We had low expectations from the accommodations honestly, because North-East trips can be hit or miss with properties. But whatever TourGrids picked for us — from Gangtok to Tawang — every hotel was proper good. Clean rooms, decent views, breakfast included, no last-minute downgrades. My wife was genuinely impressed, which doesn't happen easily. The cab arrangements were equally solid. Same driver for most legs, punctual, comfortable vehicle, no random handoffs mid-trip. Transfers between states were pre-planned and the coordinator shared timing details a day before each leg. No confusion, no waiting around with luggage. We spoke maybe three times on call before booking and everything discussed was actually delivered. That part still surprises me.
Our North-East Coordinator Replied at Every Hour
We were four friends traveling to North-East for the first time, and honestly none of us had any clue about how things work in that region — permits, connectivity, the whole thing. The coordinator TourGrids assigned us, Deepak, was available on WhatsApp practically round the clock. Every small doubt got answered before it became a problem. One evening our cab was running late and he sorted it on call within minutes, no drama. Hotels were proper good — nothing felt like a downgrade. The itinerary covered Meghalaya and Sikkim without feeling rushed. No hidden charges popped up at the end either, which was a relief. Genuinely felt like someone was looking out for us the entire trip.
North-East Itinerary Built Around Our Pace
We had been going back and forth on the North-East for months, unsure where to start. A friend suggested TourGrids and honestly, one call with their team changed everything. They asked the right questions — how many days, whether we wanted offbeat places, our budget — and came back with an itinerary that actually made sense for a couple like us. We tweaked a couple of things over WhatsApp and they adjusted without any fuss. Hotels were proper good, cabs were on time throughout, and there were no surprise charges at the end. The coordinator was reachable the whole time. Planning something this detailed on our own would have taken weeks.
North-East on a Budget, Zero Compromises
I had priced out a North-East trip on my own last year and it was getting complicated fast — different vendors for cabs, hotels scattered across booking sites, no one to call if something went wrong. TourGrids bundled everything into one package and it actually came out cheaper. Traveled with my husband for 8 days covering Meghalaya and Sikkim. Hotels were proper good — clean, well-located, nothing felt like a budget compromise. Meals, cabs, even the permits were sorted. Our coordinator was reachable on WhatsApp throughout and there were no surprise charges at the end. What you see in the quote is what you pay — that alone made it worth it.
North-East Cabs and Stays Both Impressed Us
We did a North-East trip as a couple — Meghalaya, Kaziranga, and Majuli — and honestly the hotels TourGrids picked were proper good. Not just decent, but actually well-located with clean rooms and good breakfast. I was a little skeptical before booking because we had specific preferences, but the coordinator noted everything down on our WhatsApp call and got it right. The cab transfers between destinations were the part I was most worried about, given those roads, but the drivers were punctual and the vehicles were comfortable. No last-minute confusion, no being dropped at the wrong property. Everything was where it was supposed to be, when it was supposed to be.
