Itinerary
Arrival, Kozhikode Orientation & Coastal Evening
Arrive at Kozhikode (Calicut) airport/railway station. Transfer to your hotel and relax. Afternoon city orientation walk including Mananchira Square and the historic lanes of SM Street (Mittayi Theruvu). Evening visit to Kozhikode Beach and sunset by the shore. Dinner features a welcome tasting of Kozhikodan Malabar cuisine — small plates and seafood specialities.
Tip: If you arrive early, opt for a short guided walk to sample local snacks like 'kalathappam' and 'halwa'.
Beypore Heritage & Kozhikode Culinary Experience
Morning drive to historic Beypore, famous for traditional dhow (Uru) building. Watch artisans at work and learn about maritime history. Return to Kozhikode for a visit to Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary (seasonal) or a relaxed boat ride. Late afternoon join a Malabar cooking demonstration — learn to prepare coconut-based curries and seafood dishes, followed by a family-style dinner.
Important: Bird sanctuary visits are seasonal — check local timings. The cooking demo is family-friendly and suitable for children.
Drive to Kannur — Forts, Culture & Beaches
After breakfast, drive north to Kannur (approx. 2.5–3 hours). On arrival, explore St. Angelo's Fort and enjoy panoramic sea views. Afternoon at Payyambalam Beach for relaxation. In the evening attend a cultural performance — Theyam (seasonal) or a local folk show — offering insights into Malabar's living traditions.
Note: Theyam performances run mainly between October and May; when not available, an alternate folk performance will be arranged.
Kannur Exploration & Coastal Villages
Start with Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach — one of India's longest drive-in stretches. Visit Arakkal Museum to learn about Kerala's only Muslim royal family and the maritime legacy. Afternoon village walk through fishing hamlets, meet local fishermen, and experience traditional fish-drying yards. Evening leisure and optional local shopping for handloom textiles.
Tip: Carry sunscreen and a hat for the beach drive; the drive-in beach is ideal for family photos and gentle drives.
Bekal & the Mighty Fort
Drive to Bekal in Kasaragod district (approx. 2–2.5 hours). Spend the day at the imposing Bekal Fort — walk its ramparts, explore ancient tunnels and enjoy the beach below. Take a guided heritage walk to learn about Malabar's coastal defenses and colonial encounters. Enjoy a fresh seafood dinner with local Malabar spices.
Note: Bekal Fort is an excellent spot for sunset photography — plan your visit in the late afternoon for the best light.
Valiyaparamba Backwaters — Houseboat Cruise & Village Life
Transfer to Valiyaparamba backwaters for a private houseboat or traditional kettuvallam cruise. Glide through palm-fringed canals, watch village life unfold, and stop at small islands for short walks. Onboard, savour a specially prepared Malabar coastal cuisine lunch and dinner featuring local spices and seafood. Evening fishing with the crew or a relaxed stargazing session.
Important: Houseboats are family-friendly; rooms are comfortable but basic. Inform us in advance for dietary preferences or mobility needs.
Return to Kozhikode & Departure
After breakfast aboard the houseboat, transfer back to Kozhikode for your onward journey. If time permits, visit Kappad Beach (Vasco da Gama landing site) on the way for a brief historical stop. Drop-off at Kozhikode airport or railway station. End of the Heritage Trails of Malabar itinerary.
Tip: Allow buffer time for road traffic when planning flights. Ask us about extending the package with Munnar or Kochi add-ons.

Kerala Itinerary Built Around Our Exact Preferences
My wife and I had been putting off this Kerala trip for two years because the planning felt overwhelming. A friend suggested TourGrids, and honestly, one call with their team changed everything. The coordinator sat on the phone with me for almost forty minutes, asking what we actually wanted — backwaters, hill stations, or beaches — and built the itinerary around that. No generic package was pushed on us. Hotels were proper good, the cab driver was reliable throughout, and every checkpoint in the trip matched what we had discussed. Pricing was transparent from the start, no hidden charges surfacing later. What I appreciated most was how little I had to think once the booking was done.
Kerala Houseboat Rebooked While We Were Still Upset
We had confirmed a houseboat stay in Alleppey for our anniversary, and two days before, the operator cancelled without warning. My wife was really disappointed — this was the one thing she had been looking forward to the whole trip. I called our coordinator at TourGrids around 9 PM expecting to hear 'we'll try', but by next morning he had a replacement houseboat booked, same stretch, actually better reviews than the original. No extra charge, no back and forth. Rest of the Kerala itinerary — Munnar, Fort Kochi, the drives — everything ran exactly as planned. Hotels were proper good, cabs were always on time. This was our first time booking through a travel company and honestly it removed so much weight from the trip.
Kerala Took Shape Before I Touched a Browser
I was planning a Kerala trip for my wife and me and honestly had no idea where to start — backwaters, hill stations, beaches, it felt overwhelming. A friend suggested TourGrids, so I dropped them a message on WhatsApp. Within the hour, someone from their team called and just asked us what kind of trip we wanted. No sales pitch, proper conversation. Two calls later, the itinerary was ready — Munnar, Alleppey houseboat, Kovalam, all sequenced properly with cab transfers included. They adjusted the houseboat night when I asked, no fuss. Hotels were proper good, no hidden charges at the end. Planning something this detailed usually stresses me out, but this time it genuinely did not.
Kerala Hotels and Cabs Left Nothing to Complain
Travelled to Kerala with my wife last month and honestly the accommodations TourGrids arranged were the highlight. We stayed at a proper resort in Munnar and a lovely heritage property in Alleppey — both were well above what I'd have found on my own at that budget. No compromise on cleanliness or location. The cab transfers were equally solid — same driver for most legs, always on time, comfortable vehicle. No last-minute confusion about pickups or drop timings. Our coordinator Priya had everything pre-confirmed and shared details on WhatsApp the night before each transfer. We just had to show up. For a couple wanting a relaxed Kerala trip without the usual booking chaos, this worked out really well.
Kerala With a Stranger I Ended Up Trusting
First time booking through a travel company — I'd always planned trips myself because I didn't trust anyone with my money or my holiday. A colleague suggested TourGrids, so I got on a call with them before committing anything. They listened properly, no upselling, just asked what my wife and I actually wanted from Kerala. The itinerary they sent back felt personal — Alleppey, Munnar, the right balance of relaxed and packed. Hotels were proper good, cabs were always on time, and no hidden charges when we settled the final bill. The coordinator was reachable throughout, even when we had a small room query at night. Took one trip to change how I travel.
Kerala Houseboat Date Changed, Nobody Panicked But Them
Two days before our Alleppey houseboat stay, my husband realised he'd mixed up the dates on his leave — we needed to shift everything by one day. I was sure it was going to be a mess. Called our TourGrids coordinator around 8 PM, fully expecting bad news. He checked availability, spoke to the property, and had it sorted within the hour. Hotel in Munnar also got adjusted without any fuss. No extra charges were added without explanation, and he kept us updated through WhatsApp the whole time. Rest of the Kerala trip went exactly as planned — backwaters, spice gardens, the works. Genuinely relieved we didn't try to plan this ourselves.
