Itinerary

Day1

Arrival and Transfer to the Cultural Triangle

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo). Meet and greet with your driver and transfer to the Cultural Triangle area (approx. 4–5 hours). Check in at your hotel in Sigiriya / Dambulla. If time permits, enjoy a relaxed evening and a short visit to the village surroundings.

Tip: For early arrivals you can visit a local spice garden en route.

Day2

Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Pidurangala Sunset

Early morning climb to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress to catch sunrise views across the Cultural Triangle (UNESCO World Heritage). After descending, visit the nearby Pidurangala Rock for panoramic photos. Afternoon at leisure or optional village walk to experience traditional rural life.

Important: Wear comfortable shoes and bring water; morning is cooler and less crowded.

Day3

Ancient Polonnaruwa and Minneriya Elephant Safari

Full-day exploration of Polonnaruwa — the ancient capital with well-preserved ruins, statues, and stupas. After lunch, head to Minneriya National Park (seasonal) for an evening jeep safari to spot wild elephants and other wildlife. Return to your hotel in Sigiriya.

Note: Minneriya is best for elephant sightings between June and September; other parks are available off-season.

Day4

Dambulla Cave Temple and Transfer to Kandy

Check out and visit the Dambulla Cave Temple — a complex of richly painted caves and Buddha statues. Continue to Kandy (approx. 2.5–3 hours). En route, stop at a spice garden if not done earlier. Arrive Kandy and check in. In the evening, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and watch a traditional cultural dance performance.

Tip: Dress respectfully when visiting temples (shoulders and knees covered).

Day5

Kandy Sightseeing and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Morning visit to the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens — noted for its orchids, palms, and giant Javan fig. Explore Kandy city, local markets, and the scenic Kandy Lake. Afternoon at leisure or optional visits to a tea museum or craft shops.

Important: Kandy is at higher altitude — cooler evenings; pack a light jacket.

Day6

Scenic Train Journey to Nuwara Eliya and Tea Plantation Visit

Board one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic train rides from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya (book the best available class in advance). Arrive in Nuwara Eliya (also called 'Little England') — visit a tea factory and walk through rolling tea plantations. Stop at Ramboda Falls or other panoramic viewpoints depending on timing.

Tip: Book train tickets early; window seats offer the best views.

Day7

Transfer to Southern Coast via Galle and Galle Fort Exploration

After breakfast, depart the hill country and drive to the southern coast (approx. 5–6 hours). Stop for lunch and a guided walking tour of the historic Galle Fort — cobbled streets, Dutch colonial architecture, boutiques, and lighthouse. Continue to your beach hotel in Unawatuna or Mirissa for a relaxing evening.

Note: Travel times can vary; leave early to maximize time at Galle.

Day8

Beach Day and Optional Whale Watching

Enjoy a full day on the southern beaches. Optionally take a morning whale-watching trip from Mirissa (seasonal) to see blue whales and dolphins. Relax on the beach, snorkel in clear bays, or explore nearby coastal villages. Evening at leisure with fresh seafood dinners available along the coast.

Important: Whale watching is best from November to April; book early and follow operator safety guidelines.

Day9

Return to Colombo and Departure

After breakfast, check out and drive back to Colombo (approx. 2–3 hours depending on traffic). If time permits, enjoy a quick Colombo city tour: Gangaramaya Temple, Galle Face Green, and shopping at local boutiques. Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward flight.

Tip: Confirm your flight time and allow 3–4 hours for airport arrival on international departures.
