Itinerary
Arrival, Transfer to Negombo and Beachside Relaxation
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and meet your friendly driver. Transfer to Negombo (about 15–30 minutes from the airport). Settle into your family-friendly beach hotel and relax after your flight. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a gentle walk along Negombo Beach or explore the Dutch Canal and local fish market.
Tip: If you arrive early, request an early check-in and rest to adjust to the time zone.
Dambulla Cave Temple & Climb Sigiriya Rock
After breakfast depart for the Cultural Triangle. Stop at Dambulla Cave Temple to see impressive Buddhist murals and statues. Continue to Sigiriya Rock Fortress — explore the ancient palace ruins and frescoes. The climb offers rewarding panoramic views and is manageable for older children; younger kids can explore the gardens and the base. Evening at leisure in Habarana or Sigiriya village.
Note: Carry water, sun protection and comfortable shoes for the Sigiriya climb.
Wildlife Safari at Minneriya / Kaudulla and Village Experience
Enjoy a morning jeep safari in Minneriya National Park or Kaudulla National Park, famous for the seasonal elephant gatherings. The family will likely spot elephants, deer, monkeys and many bird species. Afternoon options include a peaceful village safari with a bullock cart ride or a traditional boat ride (optional) — great for kids to interact with rural Sri Lankan life. Return to your hotel; relax by the pool.
Tip: Morning safaris are cooler and often more active; binoculars and a camera are recommended.
Scenic Drive to Kandy, Spice Garden and Cultural Show
Drive to Kandy, stopping en route at a Matale Spice Garden for a family-friendly tour where children can see spices and learn about local food. Arrive in Kandy and visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa). In the evening, attend a lively Kandyan cultural dance performance — colorful, engaging and ideal for kids.
Important: Dress modestly when visiting temples (shoulders and knees covered).
Tea Country: Train Option and Nuwara Eliya Exploration
Travel toward the hill country. Families may choose the scenic train ride from Kandy to the Nuwara Eliya region (book in advance for reserved seats). Visit a tea plantation and factory to see the tea-making process and sample fresh Ceylon tea. In Nuwara Eliya, take a leisurely stroll around Gregory Lake and enjoy cooler temperatures. Children will enjoy open spaces and gentle boat rides.
Note: Train seats sell out quickly; book at least several weeks ahead if opting for the train.
Galle Fort Stop and Beach Time in Bentota
Drive down to the southern coast via the Southern Expressway. Stop at the historic Galle Fort — wander ramparts, boutique shops and enjoy a family lunch with sea views. Continue to Bentota for beach time, water sports or simply relaxing at a seaside resort. Bentota offers calm waters suitable for children and a range of family-friendly activities.
Tip: Schedule the drive so you reach Bentota by late afternoon to enjoy sunset on the beach.
Departure or Optional Extensions
After a relaxed breakfast, transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (approximately 2–3 hours from Bentota) for your departure flight. Alternatively, extend your stay with additional beach days or a bespoke northern/southern extension.
If your flight is late in the evening, consider a short Colombo city stop for gift shopping or a quick urban tour.

Recent Sri Lanka Reviews
Sri Lanka Cost Less Than My Own Research
I spent two weeks trying to plan Sri Lanka independently — comparing hotels, checking cab rates, reading forums. Then a friend suggested TourGrids and honestly, their package came in cheaper than what I was piecing together myself. My husband and I got a 6-night trip with decent 4-star hotels, all intercity transfers, breakfast daily, and airport pickups both ways. No hidden charges when we actually paid — the final bill matched what was quoted on WhatsApp. The coordinator was easy to reach and sorted our Kandy to Ella train booking without us even asking. Booking independently felt more flexible in theory, but this was just better in practice.
WhatsApp Replies Came Before I Finished Worrying
My wife and I were planning our first international trip together and honestly had no idea where to start with Sri Lanka. A friend suggested TourGrids, and after a couple of calls and a long WhatsApp chat, we were convinced. They assigned us a coordinator named Rohit who was genuinely on top of everything. Any small doubt — cab timing, hotel check-in, local sim — he'd reply within minutes, even on the day we landed in Colombo. No waiting, no vague answers. Hotels were proper good, itinerary covered Sigiriya and Ella without feeling rushed. Pricing was transparent from the start, no surprise charges at the end. Really glad we went with them.
Sri Lanka Cabs and Hotels Both Delivered
Traveled to Sri Lanka with my wife last month and honestly the hotels TourGrids picked were the highlight. Every property was well-located, clean, and a couple of them were proper resort-level — way better than what I'd have found scrolling online myself. The cab transfers between cities were also on point. Driver was always waiting at the right time, no confusion at checkpoints or ferry crossings. I'd spoken to their coordinator a few times on WhatsApp before booking and he understood our budget without us having to repeat ourselves. No surprises on arrival, no last-minute scrambling. For a couple's trip, that kind of reliability really matters.
