Arrival in Paro & Heritage Orientation
Arrive at Paro International Airport. Meet your English-speaking Bhutanese guide and transfer to your hotel. After freshening up, enjoy a relaxed orientation walk in Paro town: visit Paro Dzong and the National Museum (watchtower) with panoramic views over the valley. Evening briefing about the pilgrimage elements of the tour and Bhutanese customs.
Overnight in Paro.
Hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery)
Full day devoted to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest). Drive to the trailhead and begin a scenic hike (approx. 2–3 hours one-way, moderate). Stop at the cafeteria viewpoint for the classic photograph of the monastery perched on the cliff. Explore the monastery complex and attend brief prayers if available. Return to Paro with optional visit to a local farmhouse for a cultural exchange.
Important: The hike is moderate — bring comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing.
Scenic Drive to Thimphu — Capital Sights
Drive from Paro to Thimphu (approx. 1.5–2 hours). En route, stop at Simtokha Dzong (if open). In Thimphu, visit the Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong (administrative & monastic fortress), the giant Buddha Dordenma statue (viewpoint), and the Folk Heritage Museum. Evening stroll through Thimphu market; enjoy traditional Bhutanese dinner.
Overnight in Thimphu.
Dochula Pass, Chimi Lhakhang & Drive to Punakha
Depart Thimphu for Punakha, crossing the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100m) with 108 chortens and Himalayan views (weather permitting). Continue to Wangdue Phodrang to visit the town viewpoint, then to Chimi Lhakhang — the Fertility Temple — where pilgrims receive blessings. Arrive in Punakha and visit the riverside Punakha Dzong at sunset when the light is spectacular.
Note: Altitude is moderate at Dochula; carry water and a light jacket.
Punakha Valley — Dzong, Suspension Bridge & Local Villages
Morning visit to Punakha Dzong (if not visited the previous day) and walk across the hanging suspension bridge to the opposite bank. Explore traditional rice terraces and visit a nearby village and farmhouse for a cultural immersion and home-cooked tea. Optional short hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten for views over the valley.
Overnight in Punakha.
Drive to Phobjikha (Crane Valley) & Gangtey Monastery
Drive to the highland Phobjikha Valley (approx. 3–4 hours). Enter the pristine wetland valley known for the endangered Black-necked Cranes (seasonal, Nov–Feb). Visit the impressive Gangtey Monastery and enjoy a guided nature walk across the valley floor to learn about crane conservation and local ecology. Evening cultural talk about the valley's spiritual importance.
Seasonal note: Crane sightings are more likely between November and February.
Return to Paro — Final Cultural Stops
Drive back to Paro (long scenic drive of approx. 5–6 hours) with stops en route for rest and photographs. Bhutan Itinerary Shaped Around What We Actually Wanted
My wife and I had been going back and forth on Bhutan for almost a year — couldn't figure out the permits, the pacing, which towns to cover. Got on a call with the TourGrids team and within 45 minutes they had a rough plan ready. We told them we wanted fewer tourist spots and more time in the valleys, and they actually listened. The itinerary came back customised, not some copy-paste package. Hotels were proper good, cabs were always on time, and the coordinator was available on WhatsApp throughout the planning phase. Pricing was clear upfront — no surprises later. Really took the confusion out of the whole thing.
Bhutan Stays Were a Class Apart
We were a couple planning our first trip to Bhutan and honestly had no idea where to start. A friend referred TourGrids and after one WhatsApp conversation, things just fell into place. What really stood out was the hotel selection — every property they picked felt thoughtful, not just filler options to fill the itinerary. One resort near Punakha had mountain views we were not expecting at that price point. The cab arrangements were equally solid — drivers were on time, vehicles were comfortable, and transfers between towns never felt rushed or disorganised. No last-minute surprises, no hidden charges. The coordinator was reachable throughout and actually knew what they were talking about.
Bhutan Came Together Faster Than I Expected
I was honestly not sure how much work goes into planning a Bhutan trip until I started researching on my own. Gave up within a day and called TourGrids. The guy I spoke to — Rahul, I think — asked the right questions from the start: how many days, what kind of hotels, whether my wife and I preferred sightseeing-heavy days or relaxed ones. Two calls later, the itinerary was sitting in my WhatsApp. We asked to swap one hotel and add a monastery visit — both changes were done without any fuss. No surprise costs at the end either. The trip itself was beautiful, and the planning part genuinely gave us zero stress.
Bhutan Trip Planned While I Was Still Skeptical
Honestly, I was nervous about handing over the entire trip to a company I'd never used before. My husband and I had been planning Bhutan for almost a year and kept delaying because the logistics felt overwhelming. A friend suggested TourGrids, so I messaged them on WhatsApp not expecting much. Within two days, they had a full itinerary ready — flights, hotels, cabs, permits, everything. Our coordinator Priya was very responsive throughout, answered all my paranoid questions without making me feel like I was being a pain. Hotels were proper good, no surprise costs showed up later. First time I've handed over a trip completely and not regretted it.
Hotels in Bhutan Were a Lovely Surprise
We were a little nervous booking Bhutan through a company we'd only spoken to over WhatsApp and a couple of calls, but TourGrids genuinely came through. The properties they arranged — especially in Paro and Punakha — were proper good. Clean, well-located, and the kind of places you'd actually want to spend time in after a full day of sightseeing. Cab transfers were always on time, drivers were courteous, and there was never that awkward moment of figuring out who's picking us up or where. My husband and I had a really relaxed trip because the logistics just worked. No surprises on the ground, no last-minute scrambling — just a well-put-together Bhutan itinerary that held up.
Bhutan for Less Than I Expected to Spend
I had priced out a Bhutan trip independently last year and given up — between hotels, the SDF fee, transport, and permits, the numbers just didn't add up. TourGrids put together a 6-night package for me and my wife that actually came under what I had budgeted on my own. Everything was included — proper 3-star hotels in Thimphu and Paro, all meals, airport transfers, a private cab throughout, and the permit paperwork. The coordinator was reachable on WhatsApp at odd hours and no hidden charges appeared at checkout. What we paid is what we paid. Bhutan itself was stunning, and not having to chase bookings made a real difference.
