Itinerary
Arrival and Transfer to Anuradhapura
Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport and meet your driver-guide. Drive north to Anuradhapura (approx. 4–5 hours). Check into your hotel and relax. In the late afternoon visit the serene Isurumuniya or take a gentle orientation walk around the city. Early arrival recommended to recover from travel.
Explore Anuradhapura — Sacred City
Full day exploring the ancient monastic complex of Anuradhapura: pay homage at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi (the oldest historically documented tree), see the colossal Ruwanwelisaya, Thuparamaya, Jetavanaramaya, and the archaeological museum. Afternoon visit to Mihintale — ascend to the hill shrine where Buddhism was introduced to the island. Wear modest clothing (shoulders and knees covered) when entering temples.
Drive to Polonnaruwa — Medieval Capital
After breakfast transfer to Polonnaruwa (approx. 2–3 hours). Spend the day cycling or driving through the well-preserved ruins of the Polonnaruwa kingdom: Royal Palace, Gal Vihara rock temple with its extraordinary Buddha statues, and ancient irrigation works. Evening at leisure in Polonnaruwa town.
Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Transfer to Dambulla
Early climb to the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress—enjoy the frescoes, mirror wall and panoramic views. After descent, visit the village or optional village tour (traditional rural life visit). Later transfer to Dambulla and check into your hotel. Climb early to avoid midday heat and crowds.
Dambulla Cave Temple and Cultural Sites
Visit the remarkable Dambulla Cave Temple (golden Temple of Dambulla) with its five cave shrines and hundreds of Buddha images. Afternoon options include a short drive to the Pidurangala Rock viewpoint or relaxing at your hotel. Evening traditional cultural show option in Sigiriya/Dambulla area.
Drive to Kandy via Matale — Temple of the Tooth
Drive to Kandy (approx. 2–3 hours) via Matale. En route visit the Aluvihare Rock Temple (where the Pali scriptures were first written on ola leaves) and see a spice garden in Matale. Arrive in Kandy and check in. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) to witness the traditional offerings and ceremonies. Temple may be crowded during puja times; plan for modest wait times.
Kandy Sightseeing and Cultural Immersion
Morning visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya. Explore Kandy city: the Kandy Lake, Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue, and the Kandy Cultural Centre. Afternoon free to shop for religious artifacts, handicrafts, or attend a cultural performance. Kandy is cooler—carry a light sweater in evenings.
Leisure Morning and Drive to Colombo
Leisurely morning in Kandy with optional visits (local temples or market). After lunch depart for Colombo (approx. 3–4 hours). On arrival enjoy a short orientation city tour: Gangaramaya Temple, Independence Square, and shopping districts. Check in to your Colombo hotel for the final overnight stay.

Recent Sri Lanka Reviews
Sri Lanka Cost Less Than My Own Research
I spent two weeks trying to plan Sri Lanka independently — comparing hotels, checking cab rates, reading forums. Then a friend suggested TourGrids and honestly, their package came in cheaper than what I was piecing together myself. My husband and I got a 6-night trip with decent 4-star hotels, all intercity transfers, breakfast daily, and airport pickups both ways. No hidden charges when we actually paid — the final bill matched what was quoted on WhatsApp. The coordinator was easy to reach and sorted our Kandy to Ella train booking without us even asking. Booking independently felt more flexible in theory, but this was just better in practice.
WhatsApp Replies Came Before I Finished Worrying
My wife and I were planning our first international trip together and honestly had no idea where to start with Sri Lanka. A friend suggested TourGrids, and after a couple of calls and a long WhatsApp chat, we were convinced. They assigned us a coordinator named Rohit who was genuinely on top of everything. Any small doubt — cab timing, hotel check-in, local sim — he'd reply within minutes, even on the day we landed in Colombo. No waiting, no vague answers. Hotels were proper good, itinerary covered Sigiriya and Ella without feeling rushed. Pricing was transparent from the start, no surprise charges at the end. Really glad we went with them.
Sri Lanka Cabs and Hotels Both Delivered
Traveled to Sri Lanka with my wife last month and honestly the hotels TourGrids picked were the highlight. Every property was well-located, clean, and a couple of them were proper resort-level — way better than what I'd have found scrolling online myself. The cab transfers between cities were also on point. Driver was always waiting at the right time, no confusion at checkpoints or ferry crossings. I'd spoken to their coordinator a few times on WhatsApp before booking and he understood our budget without us having to repeat ourselves. No surprises on arrival, no last-minute scrambling. For a couple's trip, that kind of reliability really matters.
